Homework:
This is daily practice of the material covered in class that day. The assignment
gives the student the opportunity to review the work discussed and practiced in
class, write down new questions they may have and be prepared for the next step
in their math journey. All homework is to be completed on graph paper, in
pencil, with all work shown. Paper is to be neat and turned in on time, with a
proper heading. No late work will be accepted. There are generally 10 – 15
problems for homework and should take (for the average student) about 15 – 20
minutes. This category shows that students are working on being effective
communicators.
Study Island Practice:
Study Island is an Internet based program that reinforces the math standards the
students should have already mastered in the previous year. Students will log
onto the program and spend time daily (10 minutes minimum.) reviewing math
concepts through various games and activities. A report is electronically
created and sent to the teacher, so I can see what standards were practiced, how
much progress was made and much more. Once students have reached the level of
mastery assigned they can take the Study Island Quiz at school with paper and
pencil. This practice grade is based on what proportion of the goal set by the
student and teacher is met. This category shows that students are working on
being life-long learners.
Study Island Quiz:
Students will take a short quiz in school once they have reached the goal set
for a standard. Quiz scores will be averaged for the quarter, so it is
beneficial to master as many standards as possible. This category shows that
students are working on being independent thinkers.
Class Participation:
This area includes not only active participation in class, but also staying on
task and being prepared for class with work and materials. Students earn their
points in this category by being responsible Christian leaders and effective
communicators.
Quizzes:
These quizzes are based on the homework practice and review in class. A quick
review of the previous day’s concepts will be followed by a short assessment.
Quiz scores will be averaged for the quarter, so it is beneficial to complete
homework and ask questions in a timely manner. This category shows that students
are working on being independent thinkers.
Tests:
These tests will cover the most recent concepts covered in class and may include
review concepts previously tested. This category shows that students are working
on being independent thinkers and life-long learners.
